Every spring I try to
climb and ski Mt. Pilchuck at least once a week after work.
It's a 40 min. drive to the parking lot from my school, then
an easy 1.5 -2 hour climb to the summit. The east gully off
the top is a steep drop, then a short climb puts us on top
of the "Ice Cream Ridge," which is our name for the smooth
rolling ridge on the east side of the north face. A last
climb out of the drainage, and some scrappy tree skiing,
gets us back to the car around 7 p.m. Every time I do it I
thank my lucky stars that I live and work in such an
incredible place.
